Volunteer Opportunities

The Vancouver St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference, like so many other organizations, is deeply dependent upon the time and talent that is given by volunteers. Without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, we would not be able to function.

Our Conference normally operates with about 80 active volunteers each week who generously give, on average, a total of almost 1200 hours per month to assist others in our community. In addition to our regular weekly opening hours at the Stapleton Road facility, our seasonal programs - Thanksgiving food boxes, Coats and Shoes, and Christmas food boxes and gifts - require many extra hands each year.

The Society offers a wide range of ways that you can help. Most volunteer opportunities take place at our food pantry and clothing bank on Stapleton Road.

Minors (ages 10 - 17 years old) are welcome to volunteer at our facility but must be accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian, preferably a current SVdP volunteer).

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Providing office support

  • Greeting clients at the front desk

  • Distributing food

  • Sorting food and re-filling shelves

  • Cleaning

  • Picking up bread and pastry from grocery stores

  • Sorting and distributing clothing

  • Re-packaging hygiene items

  • Assisting in the warehouse

  • Weighing and receiving food, clothing, and small household item donations

  • Monitoring the parking lot for safe traffic flow

  • Visiting homes of clients requesting rental assistance (as part of a team)

  • Packing and distributing food boxes at Thanksgiving and Christmas
