Volunteer Opportunities

The Vancouver St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference, like so many other organizations, is deeply dependent upon the time and talent that is given by volunteers. Without the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, we would not be able to function.

Over the course of the year, the COVID19 pandemic created much change in our services and a reduction of volunteers.  Our Conference normally operated with about 80 active volunteers each week who generously give, on average, a total of almost 1200 hours per month to help the poor in our community. In addition to our regular weekly opening hours at the Stapleton Road facility, our seasonal programs - Thanksgiving food boxes, Coats and Shoes, and Christmas food boxes and gifts - require many extra hands each year.

The Society offers a wide range of ways that you can help. Most volunteer opportunities take place at our food pantry and clothing bank on Stapleton Road.

Minors (ages 10 - 17 years old) are welcome to volunteer at our facility but must be accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian, preferably a current SVdP volunteer).

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Providing office support

  • Greeting clients at the front desk

  • Distributing food at the pantry window

  • Sorting food and re-filling shelves

  • Cleaning

  • Picking up bread and pastry from grocery stores

  • Sorting and distributing clothing at the window

  • Re-packaging hygiene items

  • Assisting in the warehouse

  • Weighing and receiving food, clothing, and small household item donations

  • Monitoring the parking lot for safe traffic flow

  • Visiting homes of clients requesting rental assistance (as part of a team)

  • Packing and distributing food boxes at Thanksgiving and Christmas

How to get involved

Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 9:00 am to noon.

Once again, we are hosting an opportunity to learn more about volunteering with us. If you are interested in learning about our mission and the good work done in our community, call us!  We’ll meet  at the Vancouver Society of St. Vincent de Paul facility, located at 2456 NE Stapleton Road, Vancouver 98661.  We kindly request an RSVP if you plan to attend.  Our office phone number is 360-694-5388.  This Saturday event is a wonderful opportunity for families to serve together or, for those who work Monday through Friday, an opportunity to make a difference and learn more about us! After a brief orientation, we will sort and display food and hygiene items.  Refreshments will be provided. All safety measures will be followed and wearing a mask will be required.

For information about volunteering, please call (360-694-5388) or visit our office during business hours (2456 NE Stapleton Rd., Vancouver, 98661).
